NEYIF Empowers Babbangida Community Through Cash-for-Work Activities

NEYIF HDP Nexus pilot project, funded by Save the Children, Nigeria, has successfully concluded its bimonthly cash-for-work activities for December in Babbangida town, Tarmuwa Local Government. This initiative has provided much-needed income and work opportunities to marginalized community members, empowering them to improve their livelihoods and contribute to community development.

Through the cash-for-work program, participants engaged in a variety of productive tasks, including:

Infrastructure Development, Environmental Conservation and Community clean-up efforts

These projects involve repairing roads, cleaning up polluted areas, waste collection, and street cleaning. These efforts enhance the town’s infrastructure, benefiting residents and supporting long-term development.

However, the projects help to protect the local environment and promote sustainable practices to improve sanitation and hygiene in the community by creating a healthier and more pleasant living environment.

The cash-for-work activities have had a dual impact:

  • Income Generation: Participants received cash payments for their work, providing a direct and immediate source of income. This helps them meet their basic needs and reduces their vulnerability to poverty.
  • Community Development: By participating in these activities, community members actively contribute to the improvement of their surroundings. This fosters a sense of ownership and pride, strengthens community bonds, and promotes collective responsibility for development.

The successful December activities in Babbangida highlights the positive impact of the HDP Nexus pilot project. By providing income and engaging marginalized community members in meaningful work, the project is making a tangible difference in their lives and contributing to the sustainable development of the community.
