NEYIF Empowers 50 Youths in Conflict-Affected Communities with Vocational Skills and Financial Literacy
NEYIF, under its HDP Nexus pilot project funded by Save the Children International, has taken a significant step towards empowering young people in conflict-affected communities. This week, NEYIF conducted a comprehensive five-day vocational and skills development workshop for 50 youths, focusing on equipping them with income-generating skills and financial literacy.
The workshop provided hands-on training in the production of various marketable items, including:
- Incense and wood scent: Participants learnt the techniques of creating fragrant incense and wood scents, popular products with cultural significance and market demand.
- Humra scent: This training focused on producing traditional perfumes, tapping into a niche market with potential for income generation.
- Vaseline and liquid soap: Participants gained skills in producing essential household items, enabling them to cater to everyday needs and potentially establish small businesses.
- Hair cream: This training equipped participants with the knowledge and skills to produce hair care products, another valuable skill with market potential.
Beyond the practical skills training, the workshop also incorporated crucial elements to ensure the long-term success of the participants:
- Financial literacy: Participants received guidance on basic financial management, budgeting, and saving, empowering them to manage their income effectively.
- Entrepreneurship: The training included modules on basic business principles, helping participants explore opportunities to start their own ventures and become self-reliant.
This initiative reflects NEYIF’s commitment to a holistic approach to recovery and development in conflict-affected areas. By investing in the potential of youth, the program aims to:
- Enhance economic opportunities: Equipping young people with marketable skills increases their chances of securing livelihoods and contributing to their families and communities.
- Foster self-reliance: The training promotes entrepreneurship and self-employment, enabling participants to take control of their economic futures.
- Promote community rebuilding: By empowering youth with skills and opportunities, the program contributes to the overall recovery and resilience of conflict-affected communities.
With the generous support of Save the Children International, NEYIF is transforming lives and building a brighter future for young people in Northeast Nigeria. This initiative serves as a model for youth empowerment and sustainable development in conflict zones, demonstrating the power of skills training and financial literacy in building resilience and fostering hope.
