Job Title: Baseline Assessment Consultant – Agriculture and Nutrition

Duration: One (1) Month

Position Overview:

The Baseline Survey Consultant will be responsible for designing, planning, and executing a comprehensive baseline survey in the field of Agriculture and Nutrition. The aim is to gather critical data that will inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of interventions aimed at improving agricultural productivity and nutritional outcomes in target communities. This role requires strong expertise in data collection methodologies, fieldwork, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Survey Design and Planning:
  • Develop a detailed work plan for conducting the baseline survey, including timelines, resources, and logistics.
  • Design the survey methodology, including sampling techniques and data collection tools (questionnaires, focus group discussion guides, etc.).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (government, NGOs, community leaders) to ensure alignment with the project objectives and local context.
  1. Data Collection:
  • Ensure data collection adheres to ethical guidelines, including informed consent and confidentiality.
  • Lead the fieldwork process, ensuring accurate data collection from farmers, households, and community groups related to agricultural practices, nutrition status, and food security.
  • Ensure gender and age disaggregation of data as appropriate.
  1. Data Analysis:
  • Perform data cleaning and analysis using statistical tools (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
  • Interpret survey data to provide insights into the baseline status of agricultural productivity, food security, and nutritional indicators.
  • Prepare tables, charts, and reports to present key findings.
  1. Report Writing:
  • Write a comprehensive baseline survey report, including findings, analysis, and recommendations for program interventions.
  • write a summary report defining the key findings, observation and recommendation.
  • Present baseline data and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Power point and fact sheet.
  1. Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Work closely with program teams, especially agriculture and nutrition specialists, to ensure data collection aligns with program objectives.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and community leaders for smooth survey implementation.
  • Ensure proper documentation of the survey process, including challenges faced and lessons learned.
  1. Monitoring and Evaluation Support:
  • Develop baseline data benchmarks that will support ongoing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) during project implementation.
  • Recommend indicators for tracking progress in agriculture and nutrition.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Social Sciences, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may also be considered.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting baseline surveys, particularly in the Agriculture and Nutrition sectors.
  • Proven experience in field data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in survey design and report writing.
  • Familiarity with international and national agriculture and nutrition indicators (e.g., FAO, WHO, etc.).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (SPSS, Stata, R, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and manage field teams.
  • Knowledge of local languages and culture in the target area is an advantage.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to remote areas and work in challenging environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Good knowledge of Kobo Collect, RedRose and CommCare application will be added advantage.

Payment Schedule (Flexible):

  • 20% upon signing of contract.
  • 40% after submitting initial report.
  • 40% after completing and submission of final report
